Grapes: 87% Pinotage 13% Cabernet Sauvignon Region: East Coast Winemaker: Adam Hazeldine Recommended Food: Can be enjoyed as an aperitif as well as with pasta and red meat dishes. Recommended Cellaring: 2-5 years Production Notes: The fruit was crushed at our Auckland winery and fermented at relatively high temperatures with frequent pump-overs for tannin and colour extraction. The wine was then pressed and blended then allowed to mature prior to bottling. Tasting Notes: A spicy nose with red fruit vanilla and a touch of candied apple is complemented by a smooth medium weight palate showing sweet fruit raspberries and a touch earthy richness. This is a soft red wine with great drink-ability. Reviews: Over the years this has arguably been our most reliable red table wine. Always tasty well-balanced and cheap it also has the advantage of Pinotage's earthy generosity as well as Cabernet's touch of class. It's much more sophisticated than anything the Aussies offer at $6 more so not only should it be in every supermarket but also its place as the cafe standard red wine by the glass should be unchallenged. If your supermarket doesn't have it stop shopping there. -Keith Stewart New Zealand Listener Magazine 17-23 June 2006 83% pinotage. A tasty quaffing style at a very good price; no greenness but lots of drinkability all the better for being a couple of years old. 3 STARS -Winestate Magazine Peter Saunders November 2006 |
